I wanted to like this

I don't like to leave negative reviews on products that are entirely a personal preference in terms of fragrance, but I was disappointed in this. I did purchase this, having never smelled it, just based off of the description and overwhelmingly positive reviews. Based off the listed notes of almond,... vanilla, etc. I expected this would be a scent I would love. This scent is very hard to describe in any words other than incredibly strong, so much so that is bordering on nauseating, and I am not that sensitive to smells. I can't even detect any of the notes listed in the product description. I did see another review that mentioned an anise/licorice scent, and I do smell that more than anything, even though that is not listed. In my opinion, the notes do not blend well; it's as if someone just dumped a variety of heavy perfumes in a bottle. I also read some reviews that compared this fragrance to the scent of a root beer float--I strongly disagree with that. I wish it smelled as good as a root beer float. On the positive side, this fragrance does last a long time! I tried to wash it off my wrist and could still smell it, so no concerns there regarding staying power. I actually feel bad about returning this opened and not entirely unused, as it's my fault for not smelling it first, but it's just so strong that I can't wear it. I figured even if it wasn't my favorite scent, it would be good enough to wear and use it up and never buy again. I have even had a couple friends smell it to see if they liked it, and I would just give it to them but no takers so far! So, my recommendation is if you are buying this scent for the first time to smell it in the store first. If buying for a gift for someone, and you have no idea if they like this scent, do not risk the chance that they might like it. I think this is probably a scent someone will either love or hate with no in-between. But if someone likes this scent and isn't sure if it's long lasting, they will be pleased.
