Kitsch + Disney satin bendable curlers make soft, loose curl

I ordered the Disney x Kitsch Heatless Hair Curler - Satin Covered Heatless Hair Curlers for Long Hair set because I've seen a few videos online lately about using this kind of soft curlers to make loose curls/waves, and I wanted to give it a try.This set of 6 satin curlers comes in a blue and gold ...Disney branded box. It has the castle on the front, and is Disney princess branded, if you're into that kind of thing. I happen to be very into that kind of thing (I actually write fairy tale fantasy under various pen names) and I'm though the packaging was great.I also really liked the print on the curlers. The curlers are about 10€_x009d_ long and 1 1/2€_x009d_ wide. They all have the same print, though the tone varies. The lightest colored curler is cream color, the darkest is sort of a bronze color. The print is Disney princesses in silhouette€"you can see Ariel, Belle, Aurora, Tiana, Pocohantas, Merida, and more.Each curler is made of a soft, satiny fabric. It is stuffed with what feels like foam, and has a bendable wire inside it so it can hold a shape.There are a lot of online videos that explain how to make curls with soft fabric rollers. Basically, you want your hair to be just slightly damp. The curls hold better if it isn't Day One of your shampoo cycle. The natural oils in your hair help the curl. I found Day Two and Three were good times to use this kind of roller.I think one of the reasons I enjoyed using these rollers is that they have this great old-fashioned feel. I felt like I was Anne of Green Gables, or the March girls. They used to call this kind of curlmaking €œrag curls€_x009d_. In Ye Olden Times, you would take a strip of cloth and wind your hair around it, then pin them all to the top of your head and let them dry overnight. Remove fabric, and voila! Rag curls. Those long, corkscrew Victorian curls that go boing-g-g. The ones awful Susan had and Ramona Quimby wanted to pull€"and did, finally.Okay, obviously there's a lot about curly hair and rag curls in children's literature. Maybe it stuck with me because I had really curly hair. When I was growing up, curly hair was very much not the thing. I always found it funny when people in books wanted to make their straight hair curly.Flash forward to now, and I've spent so much time over the years trying to make my curly hair straight, or at least straighter. I love my flatiron, but I know it's not great for my hair. I was curious if I could use these curlers to contain my curls a bit. I've never been sure if I have 2C or 3A curls€"they have a mind of their own especially if it's hot or humid.So I used this set of rollers. They were easy to use, you just wind your hair around them, making sure it lies flat and tight. You leave the rollers in all night. Then, in the morning, you gently let the hair slide off the slippers satin in loose curls/waves.I went to sleep thinking about Anne of Green Gables and hoping I'd wake up with beautiful, beach mermaid waves.Reality? Well, not exactly perfect beachy waves, but not that far off. I had soft, loose, large spiral curls that looked like a Victorian picture. I had focused on the hair around my face, since there are just six curlers in the set. My hair is usually a little chaotic. But now I had these curly/wavy strands that curled softly.I loved how it looked. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, those pretty, soft curls were gone. But they lasted quite a while.I think the next step for me is read up a bit on how to use rag curls. Are there products that can extend the lifespan of the rag curl? Would a tighter or looser wrap change the look significantly?This was actually a fun little project. I don't know if I would use this kind of curler every day, as it does take some time and I tend to have trouble finding time for self-care, let alone time for €œprettifying€_x009d_. But I like the soft, loose curls this made, and I would definitely use it again for a special look.Set of six satin covered soft rollers so roses great for soft, loose overnight curls. Comes in a themed Disney Princess box, the curlers are covered with Disney Princess silhouettes. This is a modern update on the old-fashioned €œrag curls€_x009d_. I loved feeling like Anne of Green Gables or Meg March while I rolled up my hair for the night. Lots of style in the packaging. Gentle, no-heat styling for your hair.
