Apply directly to the eye and blend out color with fingertips.
Layer on cream or powder eyeshadow to intensify color.
On light to medium skin tones, apply ADULTS ONLY or DON'T TOUCH all over the eyelid. Blend out the edge with fingertips up toward the crease to ensure a smooth transition.
On medium-deep to deep skin tones, apply OBLIVION all over the eyelid. Blend out the edge with fingertips up toward the crease to ensure a smooth transition.
For a smoky look, use deep shades to draw along the lashline, and blend out with NARS #25 Smudge Brush (sold separately).

Love it. Easy to apply. Very satisfied with the oomph I get from just a tiny, quick, unskilled application of product.
Mattes are amazing, shimmers not so much.
I own a lot of shadow sticks from different brands. I have this in 3 shades: Don't Touch (matte), Oblivion (matte), and Orgasm (shimmer). The mattes are absolutely amazing. Opaque, creamy, blendable, beautiful colors. Probably my favorite mattes I've ever used. The shimmer leaves a lot to be desired. Sheerer than I expected, harder to blend, and just generally underwhelming. Stick with Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier for your shimmers, but the mattes are worth every penny.

I took 3 sticks with me on vacation, Nars Hustle and two from another company. They were a perfect color combo, and Hustle was my outer corner shimmer pop. Until I opened Nars Hustle the second day and the entire stick went flying through the hotel room! It had separated at the base. Is this a mismatch between formulation and packaging? I got ~maybe 4 uses of Hustle prior to failure. This is super disappointing, and makes me eye the rest of my Nars Eyeshadow Stick collection with suspicion.
